Today was a very different day for 3RC because Josh the scriptwriter from the Birmingham Rep joined us to begin our project  – “The Secret Garden”. We began with lots of drama activities in the hall.  They were great fun but we really had to listen and co-operate to make the games work.  Back in the classroom we shared the story of “The Secret Garden.” We discussed the themes of the story and decided that friendship and trust are really important. Next we wrote stories based on our own real life experiences , family, friendships and feelings.  From our ideas we created individual landscapes and  combined our ideas to think of even more  new stories. Pheww!!  It was such good fun , Faizan felt the whole morning flew  by . Emilia didn’t even want to stop for play! Eventually we are going to write our own scripts and perform plays based on “The Secret Garden.”  What a fantastic day.

Today we went on an amazing backstage tour at Birmingham Rep! The day started when we met Josh and Cathy who took us into the theatre  through the backstage door! The theatre looked very different backstage , it was dark and we don’t mean to be rude but it wasn’t as posh as we expected. We saw the dressing rooms, wardrobe, make up and the wig dept.  the paint shop and we even went under the stage. The stage was enormous, we even saw the flight tower! We even know some of the stage secrets , how things appear and disappear , but unfortunately it wouldn’t be as fun if everyone knew. Bet you are wondering why we had a backstage tour? Well that’s because we are lucky enough to be working on a script writing project with Josh starting after Easter.

Next we had a quick visit to the largest children’s library in Europe!!!

We were greeted by a Peacock who was looking

for his girlfriend, unfortuanately he didn’t know

she had left in June! We saw plants and birds that u

are usually found in the Rainforest! We loved the

Tropical House best. A big thankyou to Faizan’s

mum, Iman’s dad and Meriam’s mum. It was so

humid in the tropical house Emily’s glasses kept

steaming up. We did lots of work on our trip ,

and even looked at some South American Blow

 Pipes!

Some parents have asked to be reminded about homework. This week we are all learning the 3 times multiplication table. Some children who already know their 3 times table are learning their six times table. Everybody has spellings to learn, ready for the test on Wednesday. Would you also make sure that you read with your child at least three times this week.

As part of our work on the Rainforest tomorrow we are going on a trip to the Botanical Gardens.

We will need

A packed lunch

A healthy snack

A drink (no bottles or cans )

A waterproof  coat and sensible shoes

We do not need any spending money . If your child suffers from travel sickness,  can you give them a travel sickeness pill before they come to school and another pill in a named envelope for the return journey.  Watch this space for our recounts of the visit. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for good weather.
